What is Reb 's Shlomo Legacy ?
Until now, Reb Shlomo Carlebach has been thought of as a musician, story teller and maggid. Only recently, are scholars in the academic world beginning to take note of Rabbi Carlebach’s teachings. Some researchers are asking if Shlomo had a more complex message, if his teachings are “deep” in the sense of being innovative commentaries to the writings of his predecessors, and if his ideas are an integral part of the theological discourse of the 20th-21st century. Furthermore, a challenging question is how the Carlebachian legacy will influence the 21st century?
This question will left be other Forums. The Objective of this site is to spread R' Shlomo Music and Teachings by creating a resource , a source of information and inspiration to...bring about greater appreciation of Ahavat Yisrael , Sabbath , Davennnig and Israel.
Reb Shlomo's life was full and he went through many phases. He travelled the world trying to the spread his music and message and crossed many boundaries and opened many new Gates for future Generations . He opened the the Gate of the teachings of many Rebbes and Rabbis Ll ,, the gate of a deeper connection to Prayer , Jerusalem , Israel and a vibrant Judaism. He was the first to bring a Guitar into the Shul, Yeshiva or a Kumsitz . Today it is common place for the use of guitars in all streams of Judaism. He reached out to Reform Communities and non Jewish Communities at a time when it was taboo for Orthodox Jews to do so. He was prepared to risk his soul and reputation to do anything to save a Jew and make them a healthy , more connected person. He was not perfect . He crossed some lines of Halacha, namely contact with Woman. He has a very large dedicated following of woman who owe their Jewishness to Shlomo. He did Hug Woman and I have heard many positive stories of the impact of these. Unfortunately , there are a few negative stories which have surfaced and threaten to to undermine his message and legacy.
It is beyond the Halacha and understanding, and lack of the true facts (or anybody) to judge him and spread Loshon Hara.
Shlomo had two famous teachings (amongst many others). You never know and the giving of a second chance.
It is up to us to give Shlomo a second chance and judge him favourably.
He has suffered enough . Not only in his lifetime , but his reputation is tarnished.
If not, Judaism is the loser.
Yes Shlomo was trailblazer. He was a Hero, but a flawed Hero. (But show me a perfect man from Jewish Biblical History without flaws).
This web site lay dormant for the last few years, but now after the un-proportional response of the 'me too' impact , I will be more active in posting blogs and positive stories (testimonies) about Shlomo. Please send these to shlomofriends @gmail.com.
